News on Candyman, The Equalizer and more plus a 'Cherish The Day' Review

On this week’s Ellen @ Blackfilm videocast, guest co-host Hakeem Graham and I discuss and share our opinions on the official trailer of the upcoming urban legend film ‘Candyman,’ produced by Jordan Peele and directed by Nia DaCosta. The sequel stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Vanessa A. Williams and will be released in theaters on Friday, June 12, 2020.

The CBS reboot of the classic ‘80s crime drama ‘The Equalizer’ starring Queen Latifah and Lorraine Toussaint (The Village). Queen Latifah is in the title role as Robin McCall; Lorraine Toussaint plays her aunt.

The trailer for the upcoming film ‘The High Note’ directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Flora Greeson. The film stars Dakota Johnson as the ambitious personal assistant to pop diva Tracee Ellis Ross. The scheduled release date is Friday, May 8, 2020.

The TV adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s 1987 sci-fi novel, ‘Dawn,’ about an African American woman called on by aliens to revive mankind after Earth’s apocalypse. Victoria Mahoney (Star Wars; The Rise of Skywalker, Seven Seconds, You, Claws) has been set as a creator and will adapt and direct the pilot.

Anthony Mackie stars as Takeshi Kovacs in season 2 of the Netflix series ‘Altered Carbon.’ The series is about humans that have discovered a way to store their consciousness as digital human freight on silver discs in their necks that are implanted into sleeves (bodies).

The pilot season for ‘Waking Up White’ by writer/director/producer Jason D. Gregory is underway. The dramedy series is about a black family that wakes up White and has 30 days to determine if they’d rather return to their cultural roots or stick with the “new” skin that they are in.

A review of ‘Cherish the Day’ (ep. 4 and 5), a one-hour drama that chronicles the stirring relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day.
